  • Connect to the range extender’s default SSID, using a wireless computer or mobile device.
  • The wifi signal from the router in that location should be strong.
  • Input the default gateway http://extender.linksys.com in the address bar of any browser and hit enter to launch the setup wizard.
  • Before clicking Start Setup read the End User License Agreement.
  • Select the wireless network name (SSID) when prompted.
  • Enter the Network password or the security key.
  • The _Ext suffix will be added automatically to the Network name. You can personalize the Network name, password and security mode of the range extender’s 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. Enter them in the required fields. You can also click on Next.

  • You can enter the Email Address to register the range extender.
  • You can also create the admin password on your own. The other way out is to add an optional password hint for recovery. Click Save once you are done with making changes.
  • Lastly, when the button labelled Next turns blue, click on it.

Set up using the WPS

Plug the range extender into the power outlet close to the router gateway. You can wait until the light indicator changes to orange.

  • Press the WPS button present on the wireless router.

  • Locate the extended Wireless settings of the band that you wish to change. Now, uncheck the box beside Make same as router settings. You can now enter the preferred wifi name and password in the Network Name (SSID) and password fields.
  • You can also change other advanced settings like Channel Width, Security mode and SSID Broadcast.
  • If you want to change the extended wireless settings of the 5GHz network, the same rule applies. You can scroll down to the 5GHZ Extended Wireless Settings section. The router should broadcast both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. If the router’s 5GHz band is disabled or doesn’t have a feature, the 5GHz settings will be greyed out.
  • You can click on Save to apply the changes.

Suppose you are experiencing issues like intermittent connections, not able to login into the range extender, or forgot your customized password. In that case, you can reset your extender to factory defaults and start the setup from scratch. You can reset the range extender via two methods discussed below:

Using reset button

The location of the button may vary with the extender model. Press the reset button on the extender. Hold it for around 8 seconds. You can power cycle the device to complete the reset process.

Open any compatible browser and log in to the web-based management page of the extender.

  • Under the Administration option, click Factory defaults.
  • Now, click on the Restore factory defaults option.
  • You can complete the process by unplugging the range extender and leaving it off for 30 seconds. Plug the device back into the electrical outlet.
